Gene J. Miller is the author of WARNING: Short Stories for Middle School Boys Only, Because Girls Have Cooties!, a collection of fifteen humorous and adventure-filled stories inspired by growing up along the Delaware River in South Jersey during the 1960s and 1970s. time-capsule with its 15 short stories with 14 separate themes. It fully reflects a time before technologies such as streaming television, the internet, computers, cell phones, X-Box, and TikTok became the preferred form of middle school entertainment.
After spending forty-four years working in public education from middle school through college, Miller brings a deep understanding of adolescence, storytelling, and the lessons that shape young lives.
The book began as a personal project for his grandsons, written to share the kinds of bedtime stories that capture the fun, mischief, and challenges of growing up. Each chapter blends humor, friendship, and real-life experiences from a time when childhood meant exploring outdoors, inventing games, and learning lessons through adventure. The stories invite readers of all ages to laugh, reflect, and remember a childhood that existed long before the world of technology.
